Crystal TMC Meeting Key notes -14 Oct 2013

ToastMaster of the Evening, Nana Halim

VIVA  LA  VIDA
“Live the Life”
“Hooray for Life”
YES………I believe all the attendees have these sensational feelings, topped up by the sensational mono-drama performance, “Emily of Emerald Hill” by DTM Lum Woon Foong, making this the best meeting ever in Crystal Toastmasters Club.
Hooray for Life, or as the Spanish say it, Viva La Vida. This means living life to the fullest and the best way possible. We were given life as a human being. We have the privilege to think and plan. So…live life to the fullest, enjoy every little thing in life and find something beautiful within it so when we look back on our life we can proudly say “I can’t believe I did that” rather than “I wish I did that”.
A “Big Clap” to our TME TM Nana Halim for instilling such a great motivation in the meeting. All ladies responded well to her idea by wearing the brightest and colorful dress on that evening. Bravo Ladies…… please give a round of applause for yourself.
'Hanami' by Kumiko Machida
Apart from the colorful life celebration, TM Kumiko Machida also brought us all the way to Japan to mentally illustrate the “Hanami” party celebration through her speech. “Hanami” means celebrating spring time under the Cherry blossom tree.
From there we have better understanding about cherry blossom tree which have short blooming season. She also shared with us some good location of cherry blossom tree. If you plan to visit Japan in the near future, do keep this in mind. You will benefit by witnessing the most beautiful cherry tree in town;
1.  Tokyo (Shinjuku Gyoen)
2.  Nara (Mt. Yoshino)
3.  Hyogo (Himeji Castle)
The tradition of “Hanami” party is to have a picnic right under the blossomed cherry tree. How I wish to be there one day to experience the cheerful mood and enjoy the colorful season under the cherry blossom tree.
'It Must Be Done' by Irene Lee
Our second speaker Irene Lee ACS ALS empowered us with the idea “It must be done”. She brought us through 4 steps of effective assertion which are:
1. State the problem
2. Be direct
3. Specify a solution
4. Describe the consequences
She also provided 4 tips when speaking to a person:
1. Speak up immediately
2. Be direct
3. Be pleasant
4. Be calm
We gained a deep insight about her idea via the role playing scenario.
Introvert or Extrovert by Yip See See
Next, our ever seasonal and experienced toastmaster Yip See See ATMS CL graced the meeting with dynamism and exuberance. She portrayed both “Extrovert” and “Introvert” characters. It is of wonders for the attendees who enjoyed watching her demonstration on two characters at the same time. For those who missed out the golden opportunity, you are most welcome to join us in our next meeting to explore more exciting upcoming events.
Toastmasters is a perfect place for learning, and evaluation session is an important learning ground for all speakers. All the energetic evaluators, Jennifer Pan CC ALB, Sok Teng ACS ALS and DTM Sue Ding praised all the speakers for meeting the speech objectives. They also provided room of improvement for speakers to further polish their presentation skills.
After the fellowship, all ladies were amazed by an absolute sensational mono-drama performance,“Emily of Emerald Hill” presented by DTM Lum Woon Foong from Metropolitan Bilingual Toastmasters Club.
Monodrama by DTM Lum Woon Foong
Not only did DTM Lum Woon Foong made the literature come alive through her voice, emotions and movements, but also making the character alive using her magnificent acting skills, so much so that all attendees gave her a standing ovation after her performance. It is in fact a “Big Loss” to those who are absent.
DTM Lum Woon Foong explained that mono-drama is a form of interpretation which one person tells the story and the other person acts it out. It contained story line, presentation skills, character, body language and vocal variety. For better results, we can use emotions to vary our voices.
All the attendees were overjoyed by her examples and role play session, I am not surprised to learn that most of them were still mingling around the story line even after the meeting was adjourned.
It is indeed a true Viva La Vida night…………………
………………..…Live the Life……………………………..
………………….Hooray For Life…………………………
CHEERS…………………………
 Pretty ladies in a row
Smiling Faces.............

Yes......Finally......Congratulations....
Best Speaker - Yip See See
Best evaluator - Sue Ding
