Travelling Crystal Toastmaster set foot on Mount Everest base camp in Nepal.

Landing at Lukla Tenzing-Hilary Airport(2800M), rated as extreme and dangerous killer runway in the world unfortunately, the only gateway to Mt.Everest .

We did a last minute shopping for trekking essentials at the airport village. My expedition team comprising of total 22 paxs. Our duffle bags and general porters who will carry two bags each from start to end. Inside the bags will be our sleeping bags, minimum clothing, toiletries, .etc.

Countless crossings similar to this for trekkers, porters, donkeys and yaks(Himalayan cattle). At 3440m, Namche Bazaar is considered a big town in this region.  Looking cool as the adventure has not yet begun…

As we go higher, surrounding vegetation changes . At 4500M, no more plants to be seen except for rocks and shrubs. No more firewood so the people here uses  dried yak-dung  as the only source of natural fuel. Barren ground left to be seen but the surrounding mountains are  magnificent and breath-taking.

Real adventure begins.(4900M). Some team-mates were  already missing due to medical reasons and they were either transported down by piggy -back or helicopters. The going gets tough and the tough gets going….

Most importantly, I made it to Everest Base Camp and Kalapattar Peak. I believe mountains have spirits and I am drawn to it. I felt  joy and safety at being swallowed up by this  powerful mother nature  yet we  have to endure much risks and dangers to seek this solace……

Tammy Lim Guat Cheng, CC, from Crystal Toasmasters in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, poses at the Mount Everest base camp in Nepal. She eventually reached the base of Kala Patthar, an adjacent mountain from where she viewed Mount Everest's peak.
