Emily is on ACM #51 date 28 September 2010

Dear Crystal Ladies,

Good news ! Our Emily Bong took up the challenge doing her Advance Manual #2 at ACM.

ACM is a fantastic platform for Toaastmasters who want to:-

a) receive EFFECTIVE and CONSTRUCTIVE feedback from not 1 but MANY evaluators
b) enhance your EVALUATION skill - the PARTICIPANTS can give feedback too
c) improve your LEADERSHIP skills by playing the role as facilitator or co-ordinator.

The way they conduct the meeting is different from what we normally have.

For the speakers, they are not only given panel but also open evaluations from the participants. Wow ! what a wonderful experience to have so many effective and constructive evaluations for your speech.

On that day, Emily presented the Project #2 : Resources for Entertainment and her speech title was "Seeing through the Eyes of a Caucasian". . The audience could almost pictured Emily Bong as the old fashion mother-in-law, has welcomed her "daughter" and her mat salleh (foreign) husband from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA); for visiting to Malaysia. It was indeed a culture shock for any "old people" to see and to understand how mat salleh behave and she found it unforgiving for a man to wear a "skirt", which in fact he wore a Scottish kilt.

Anyway, we should learn to respect and accept people from different background and culture though they are different from us. Thanks to her evaluators - Jerene Yap, Johnson Yike, Dinesh Kanna, and yours truly have given her an "entertaining" evaluation


I really salute her courage for transcending her TM skills to higher level. It is a great experience to be able to speak at ACM.

The theme “Moving Forward” is to motivate the members to progress or advance further in our journey of toast mastering. The Toastmaster Of The Evening, Emily Bong, ACB, ALB, had early on before the meeting, blast out an email, “ Are you  moving  forward  to  equip  yourself to be a  better mentor?" Our honorable Brand Strategist Speaker’s, Jon Tan, DTM, had tailor made a “Mini Mentoring Workshop” in this meeting. In this workshop, he talks about how to be an effective mentor and the benefits of being a coach, mentor or mentee. It also explore on defining vision plan and mentoring scope. A practical role of Mentor and Mentee had taken place in this session to in-depth further in this workshop. He even distribute the materials of Mentoring to all who attended the workshop. “LET IT GO…………………LET IT GO…………………” In life, sometimes we harbour bitter and unpleasant feelings about someone or a disagreement; we allow such guilt or grief to be embedded in our hearts.
