Back to the History of Crystal Toastmasters......

Back to History

Going back to the roots....

Below is an abstract of an interview conducted by Tammy Lim with Crystals long time
passionate and co-founding member, Tan Saw Bee.

Question: How was the club formed?

Answer:
The founder is none other than Tan Sri Ng Yen Yen .

She rounded up some ladies with the help of Dato lee Hwa Beng in 1998 . I
remember the meeting was held at Lakeview Club , Subang Jaya .

Dato' Lawrence Chan ( Taman Indrahana TMC ) was also roped in to introduce
Toastmasters . Ng yen yen ( no titles then) diligently drove Bonnie & I to the talk for
two consecutive nights . She managed to rope in 20 ladies with the help of Dato' Lee
Hwa Beng . Among the 20 charter members were Christine Chan ( Charter
President) , Nicky Lee , Bonnie Ang, Karen Hee , Tan Siew Eng , Rosalind Tan , Tan
Wee Ping , Shirleen Chiew , Lena Yeoh , Rita Wong , Eng Mui Seng , Irene
Yap , Susanna , Joanne Foo , Tan Saw Bee and Caroline Wong. Crystal TMC was
chartered on 30th June 1998 . Our club patrons were Ng Yen Yen ( Tan Sri ) , Lee Hwa
Beng ( Dato' ) and Lawrence Chan . The sponsor of our club was Taman Indrahana
TMC . Ho Fong Ming and KK Ng were our club mentors . Our club was originally
called Lakeview TMC . But the name was later changed to Crystal TMC . Our meetings
were initially held at Lakeview Club ( three monthly) before we moved to Holiday
Villa for more than a year . Sometime in the year 2000 the meeting venue was
relocated to a college located in Crystal Building, Petaling Jaya (one month only)
because Holiday Villa wanted to increase their charges from Rm10 per pax to Rm30.
As the venue was not conducive, our Charter president Christine Chan promptly
helped us to secure another meeting place at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort
during my term as President (2000/2001) at a price we could afford.

We have been in Tropicana Golf & Country Resort ever since.
