Meeting Keynotes “His Story and Her Story”

Ng Sok Teng, ACS ALB
Toastmaster of the Evening
Crystal Toastmaster Club kicks off the first meeting for term 2013/2014 with a great success.

A big “thank you” goes to our special talented lady Ng Sok Teng ACS ALB as TME, who started the meeting with a “Big Bang”; who brought back the old members including most of the past presidents to meet the new members; who arranged to tell “His Story and Her Story” to mark an impact in our memory lane. On top of that, she wisely arranged the programme to kill two birds in one stone by celebrating Crystal Toastmaster Club’s 15th Anniversary on the same time.

Monday night (July 8, 2013) is a memorable night for all with huge turn up of 29 members and 29 distinguished guests. The meeting was witnessed by Region Advisor DTM Eliza, District Governor DTM Kiang Fang Peng and, Chartered President Christine Chan, Chartered Club Mentors; DTM Ho Fong Ming and Ng Koon Kow, TM.  It is indeed a beautiful start of a new chapter in our Crystal Toastmasters Club.

Linda Phoon delivering
first presidential speech
Our president, Linda Phoon CC delivered her first maiden presidential address by encourage all the members to ventures into the new challenges  in Toastmaster journey for it is the platform which provides the most conducive environment to learn communication and leadership skills.

Subsequently, the baton was passed to our TME Ng Sok Teng ACS ALB to build the climax. She started off by telling “His Story” of the whole journey on the formation of Toastmasters International. Then, she proceed to invited the invocator, Karen Hee ATMB who recalled the protocol of Crystal TMC which involved Datuk Ng Yen Yen, Datuk Lee Hwa Beng and Datuk Lawrence Chan. She ended by reminding us to be grateful and remember their contributions. She puts in her faith in believing and trusting that Crystal Toastmasters Club is a paradise to be.

The meeting was further energised by our humour master Emily bong ALB ACB. She injects her humour by telling us how she loved people to criticise her directly to her face rather than a laughing matter behind her back.

Our Table Topic Master, Caroline Wong ATMB presented us the most heart beating session that you will never forget. This is the first time in Crystal TMC history that Table Topic Master was given the privilege on choosing the speakers. Total of 5 speakers were intentionally chosen by her as listed below;

1.                  Irene Lee ACB ALS
She encouraged all ladies to step out from the home club in order to gain more experiences and shared the same with own club members.
Deborah Leong presenting during
table topic speech session
2.                  Deborah Leong (1st imported DTM)

She encouraged all ladies to intensify their self-esteem and women power by shining out of the club.
3.                  Yip See See ATMS
She is proud to be a lady and got the opportunity to be a member of Crystal TMC. She felt easy with all the ladies who are not only able to speak but also good in singing, dancing, acting and joking. She encouraged all ladies to get the best out of everyday.
4.                  Low Laychi ACG
Crystal TMC is a club that provides her a learning ground and make her realised her coaching talent and it is a place that motivate her to do better.
5.                  DTM  G. Sivalingam
He enjoyed working with all the helpful  ladies from Crystal Toastmasters Club and grateful that Crystal TMC is a good testing ground for his workshop.

The meeting reaches its peak when our two equally competent speakers presented their project assignment as outlined below;

1.                  Tan Siew Eng CTM CL with her Speech Title : My name, My Destiny.
She opinionated that what you are being called matters a lot. Her name was dramatically changed from “Saw Ngoh” (in Cantonese sounded like a prosperous goose that can lay golden egg”) to “Siew Eng” (in Cantonese sounded like Skinny Eagle), and subsequently changed to “Mrs. Yong” upon married. Her fate changes accordingly from good to bad until she finally realised the importance of her own identity and rebranded herself and changed her name to : “Sue Ellen”. With this new name – Sue Ellen, she wants to re-chart her destiny and to live the way she choose rather than leave it to fate.

2.                  Jennifer Pan CC ALB with her Speech Title : Nature Vs Nurture
Nature Vs Nurture debate is one of the oldest issues of philosophy & psychology. Different arguments and therories are being debated among all philosopher and psychological. Today, a majority of experts believed that nature & nurture are no longer two separated systems, but just one that works in complex ways to create one unique individual. She concluded her speech with two powerful quotes of Carl Jung which supports both Nature & Nurture ;

                  “Every human life contains a potential,
                     If that potential is not fulfilled,
                        Then that life was wasted…”

                  “I am not what happened to me,
                I am what I choose to become.”

Crystal TMC celebrated its 15 Anniversary immediately after the breaks. Our TME Ng Sok Teng refreshed the audience memory by replaying the events and success story of Crystal TMC from the club being chartered until today. With her video, all members are being brought back to Crystal’s memory lane.

Thereafter, she invited our chartered president, Christine Chan to tell us about “Her Story”. Taman Indrahana Club was the sponsor club for Crystal Toastmasters Club. Crystal TMC was chartered in year 1998 with 22 committed ladies. The meeting venues were changed from Lakeview Club to Holiday Villa, and temporary hosted at some members house before finally settled down at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort (Green Room 1). Crystal TMC started with 22 chartered members who committed to stay with the club for 3 years. Today, she is proud of Crystal TMC achievement and encouraged all Crystal ladies to move forward to achieve to the greatest height.
“Her Story” was further elaborated by our past president, Tan Saw Bee ACG who crafted the mission to empower women so that they can rewrite their destiny. She said, Crystal TMC provides supportive environment for women to sharpen communication skill and for them to transform from ordinary to extra-ordinary. There are 11 past presidents who stay put to provide the utmost supports so that other women can grow.
The event reaches its climax when it tosses by DTM LeAnn Tang with a poem and cake cutting ceremony by our chartered president, Christine Chan and current president, Linda Phoon CC. The ambience was filled with fun and joys.

DTM Ho Fong Ming, General Evaluator
Our General Evaluator, DTM Ho Fong Ming took over the control immediately after the group photo session.  She praises all Crystal ladies as confident, charming and totally committed. All evaluators gave their very inspiring evaluation especially on all 5 impromptu speakers. All of them are being praised for their good performance.

It was indeed one of the most memorable, rewarding and enriching evening with great fellowship and grand celebration. The spirits of togetherness among all Crystal ladies will definitely evolve us to the next level.

Together We Shine, Together we witness the success ahead.
Everyone joins hands and forms a big circle, singing the famous Diana Ross song 'If We Hold On Together'.
