REGULAR MEETING - 240912 - THE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival or Zongqiu Festival, is a popular lunar harvest festival celebrated by Chinese and Vietnamese people. Celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival has a history of over 3,000 years dating back to the moon worship in ancient times.
The festival is celebrated extensively across the country, and is one of the few reunion holidays for Chinese families. On that day, Chinese family members stay together, admiring the full moon, as it is the brightest and fullest in the whole year and eating mooncakes.
In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, Crystal Toastmasters Club had set the Theme – Mid-Autumn Festival to boost up the meeting. Our Toastmaster of the Evening, Lee Mei Foong, did a fantastic job by staging the mood!! And, record show that we had 10 guests and 21 members attending the meeting. Congratulation!!
Our Table Topic Master, Serene Ting had vividly come out with the idea to have the questions put in a lantern. And our participant’s Low Lay Chi, had seized the opportunity by fully utilized the lantern as her tool to elaborate her impromptu speech. Well done!!
Our assignment speaker, Ogy, in line with the Theme had introduced “ Chang E “ and “ Hou Yi “ in her story folk tale. This story elaborate on the history of The Mid-Autumn Festival. And, this had transformed it further to the Theme mood – The Mid-Autumn Festival !!
Our Crystal members and even some guests came in “ Cheong Sum and floral dress “. Lanterns in various color is everywhere. It was a spectacular colorful evening. Other than our usual mouth watering catered food, members bring in mooncakes, which is a symbol of wishing relatives and friends a long and happy life. Other top up food like vegetables salad, herbal rice and special yam, definitely add special menu to this meeting. It was definitely something to shout about.
It was fun learning and an awesome evening !! Crystal you are the best !!
