2013 Youth Leadership Program (YLP) Date : November 16-17, 2013 (Saturday and Sunday) Venue : Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, 47410 Petaling Jaya Time : 8.30am to 5.00pm Think of the successful leaders you know…… They probably have one trait in common – the ability to communicate effectively. It is important that people develop this ability early in life so that they may successfully meet the challenges of adulthood and leadership. Mentor and Mentee ice-breaker session in 2012 YLP Youth leadership Program (YLP) helps young people build their communication and leadership skills so they may become tomorrow’s leaders in business, industry and the community. Through this YLP, young people can grow to meet the challenges of adulthood and leadership successfully. The YLP is conducted by members of Crystal Toastmasters as part of their community program. Unlike public speaking program offered by training companies, our YLP is facilitated by a group of trainers and me

Landing at  Lukla   Tenzing -Hilary Airport(2800M), rated as extreme and dangerous killer runway in the world unfortunately, the only gateway to  Mt.Everest  . We did a last minute shopping for trekking essentials at the  airport village.  My expedition team comprising of total 22  paxs.  Our duffle bags and general porters who will carry two bags each from start to end. Inside the bags will be our sleeping bags, minimum clothing, toiletries, .etc. Countless crossings similar to this for trekkers, porters, donkeys and yaks(Himalayan cattle).  At 3440m,  Namche  Bazaar is considered a big town in this region.    Looking cool as the adventure has not yet begun… As we go higher, surrounding vegetation changes  .  At 4500M, no more plants to be seen except for rocks and shrubs.  No more firewood so the people here uses    dried yak-dung    as the only source of natural fuel.  Barren ground left to be seen but the surrounding mountains are   magnificent  and  br

Footprints on the sands of time Our Toastmaster of the Evening, Globetrotter Tan Saw Bee, shared with us that during the recent cruise in the Baltic Seas, several crystal ladies had the opportunity to visit St Petersburg and other cities. St Petersburg took her breath away. According to Saw Bee, if men like Peter The Great & women like Catherine The Great, had not left their footprints in St Petersburg, she would not have the opportunity to appreciate the amazing & exquisite monuments, buildings and artworks. St Petersburg is the source of her inspiration for tonight’s theme ‘Footprints on the sands of time’ plucked from Henry Longfellow’s immortal poem “A Psalm of Life” where the below stanza from this poem was dedicated to all the members & guests.           Next, we had our Table Topics Master, KL Cheah who almost took away the breath of 5 courageous speakers with her profound table topics, giving the speakers great opportunities to demonstrate their

Meeting Keynotes “What Friends Are For”

Meeting held on 22nd July 2013 TME Ng Siew Tho brought some delicious pineapple tart for everyone In conjunction with our theme of the night “ What Friends Are   For ”.    A song entitled to “That’s What Friends Are For” is being played even before the meeting started. TME of the night, CC CL Ng Siew Tho started off the meeting by sharing her personal story about her good friends. We need friends in life, whether in good time or bad time. Friends are our pillar of strength. She especially likes the below lyrics of the song and shared with all the attendees; "Keep Smiling, Keep Shining, Knowing you can always count on me, for sure… That’s what friends are for………" So touching............ The baton was subsequently passed to Table Topic Master ACB ALB Lee Mei Foong to build the climax. All 5 speakers are able to relate their true personal story about their friends in life.  A friend in need is a friend indeed. All the assignment speakers are equally competent
